Metallica on Geocities!
If you haven't heard, Geocities is closing on October 26, 2009. Geocities has played an important role in the history of the Metallica fandom. On Fan History Wiki, we want to help chronicle the history of this fandom on Geocities before it is lost forever. We'd love to have you involved.

We've created some stub articles at Metallica fansites on Geocities. There isn't much there, especially when you think about the whole of Geocities and how important Geocities was to the Metallica fandom. We'd really want to see the few existing articles improved to give a better idea of what role they played early in the fandom's history and for the fandom's history off LiveJournal. Just click edit, write in relevant information and then click save. You can't screw it up. (It's a wiki. Things are incredibily easy to fix if you're worried.) If you're feeling really helpful, please use Template:fansitesgeocities to create new articles so that we can get the history of more Geocitie's Metallica fansites saved.

Even if you aren't editing, please pass the word along to others in the fandom. Ask them to help us. Ask them to visit Geocities to just save those sites on their hard drives. If you're a fan fiction reader, check out some of those stories from the fandom before they disappear potentially forever.

At Vance
"Хорошо, когда группе удается найти свой собственный стиль. Здорово, когда "почерк" группы узнается с первых же аккордов. Но совсем не здорово, когда, найдя свое место под солнцем, группа успокаивается, начинает почивать на лаврах, штампуя диски по однажды удачно найденному лекалу, ведь, как говорится, "успокоенный талант не стоит ни гроша"! Достигнув своего пика на альбоме 2002 года "Only Human"
At Vance - 2002 Only Human
И если на последовавшем за ним “The Evil In You” (2003) еще были интересные идеи и действительно хитовые вещи, то на “Chained”
At Vance - 2005 Сhained

Wizard - 2005 Magic Circle
Wizard - 2005 Magic Circle
Wizard.
"Самый что ни на есть классический power metal, варьирующийся в пределах границ жанра. Порою здесь есть скоростные ураганные вещи, иногда заметно влияние Manowar и немецкой школы хэви металла. Чистый высокий вокал, тексты с заголовками вроде Metal, Call of the wild и Warriors of the night - все это говорит само за себя..."
2003 Odin.
Wizard - 2003 Odin
"Wizard" приняли решение порадовать своих поклонников чем-нибудь концептуальным. Таким образом на свет и появился диск "Odin", посвященный, как и можно было судить из названия, скандинавскому Всеотцу Одину.
Но всем любителям Хорошего Power мой совет один - обязательно послушать этот альбом... А ещё лучше послушать оба.

Hey, sorry if this kind of post isn't allowed, If it's not you can just delete it, but I made this purse a while back and since I need the cash, figured I'd sell it on eBay. It's the actual record cover sewn into a purse (yeah, obviously the one on the right.) All the other details about it are on the auction listing. -M

Info Request
I have a question for the Metallica fans:

Assuming you own every full-length album and DIDN't have any of the EP's, which titles would you most want to go out and buy first, and why? I'm trying to pick up something for my boyfriend but I'm unfamiliar with the discography and have no idea where to start.

So, come on, metal heads. Which EP do you recommend?

Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time
As with all Rolling Stone 'greatest' lists, this one is a little suspect, but Metallica made the list (barely) with Enter Sandman at 399. I would have thought Master of Puppets before Sandman, or both, but I guess not.

Also in the issue, Het lists his top 10 and why:

10. The Boys are Back in Town - Thin Lizzy: Phil Lynott was never afraid to write from the heart, even if it was a litle corny. Thin Lizzy inspired a lot of Metallica's guitar harmonies.

9. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana: When all that Eighties hair metal was getting overproduced, Nirvana come along with this trashy garage sound and a huge hook. It was what music needed.

8. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath: This song scared the shit out of me. It's beyond heavy.

7. Yesterday - The Beatles: It instantly connected with me. It makes you think, but not too hard.

6. God Only Knows - The Beach Boys: I got on a Beach Boys kick again about six months ago. I grew up in Southern California; to me, this song speaks to a higher power.

5. Candle in the Wind - Elton John: "Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting" was more my style, but few songs can top this melody.

4. Behind Blue Eyes - The Who: This song had all that teen angst bubbling under it. It's about asking for help but not really wanting it. Reminds me a lot of me.

3. Jailhouse Rock - Elvis: I remember seeing that video of him jumping around behind bars with all his buddies. It encapsulates rebellion, which is really just misguided creativity.

2. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zepplin: When I first got a guitar, I figured out the first couple of fingerings to this, and I ran around the house saying "Check it out - I can play this!" My family was like, "Where's the rest of the song?"

1. Free Bird - Lynard Skynard: Nothing tops this workingman's ballad. "Free Bird" fit my life for the first twenty years on the road - not really getting too attached to stuff, living life for the moment and moving on.

At least James wasn't like Brian Wilson, whose list included mostly Beach Boys songs. Get over yourself, dumbass...

Milwaukee Show
had an amazing time at the show on Friday. Met up with people from the club before the show. We heard that Sully from Godsmack was over at the Lazer booth, so we headed over there. We missed most of that, but managed to take pictures of him outside the booth, and I got one with him as well!! Once inside the show it was complete chaos trying to get the stupid wristband & stamp, but it manged to all work out. Ended up right by the rail, with hardly anyone behind us. Mananged to get a pic and a setlist from the Godsmack set. During the Metallica, set when Lars was on our side, he was walking over to us with a glass of something and dropped it. Everyone started making fun of him for it, so he picked up the glass, took a drink and started spiting it at me . He did that twice before he threw the glass and the rest of the contents at me. My shirt was soaked, so he then threw a towel at me. . Also got a Lars pic, which was very cool. Now I just have to find a way to display it all. Myles, Lars son was also there. Boy was he a cutie! AHHH....now I just can't wait until next Friday to do it all again!
